Richard oversees tax work on some of the most complex partnership returns generated by the Alternative Investments Practice here at Richey May, including returns with >1,000 partners, >10 side-pocket classes, and multi-tiered waterfall allocations. Richard has over 5 years of public accounting experience in the Alternative Investments space. Prior to joining Richey May full-time, Richard obtained a Masters of Accounting from the Idaho State University College of Business where he graduated with honors and was admitted to the Beta Gamma Sigma honors society. He received his Bachelors Degree from BYU-Idaho and was recognized by the department as an Outstanding Graduate.
As a Tax Manager at Richey May, Richard provides comprehensive tax services to Private Equity, Venture Capital, Crypto Fund, Hedge Fund, FOF, and REIT clients. He also enjoys helping fund managers structure new launches in order to maximize tax efficiencies and avoid tax issues for the funds and investors alike. Richard comes from a family of seven children. He was raised by an Idaho farm boy and the daughter of a banker. He learned at an early age that working hard, serving others, and “doing it right” are the path to success. His favorite part of public accounting is the opportunity to apply these core values in a way that brings maximum value to his clients.
When he isn’t sitting behind a keyboard, Richard enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and friends. This time in nature includes hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, backpacking, skiing/snowboarding, gardening, photography, volleyball, and disc golf. He and his wife also enjoy international travel, and have set their sights on a trip to Norway in the near future.
